Canvas Clingons

doasketch.wordpress.com

I love to paint. I love the process and the discipline involved, and looking at the end result. I like to think I’m a patient person, however one thing that really gets my man knickers in a twist is “canvas clingons”. By this I mean the menacing bits of stray material that like to attach themselves to my precious artwork while I’m in full flow.

Despite meticulous preparation and cleaning of my work surface, I am still presented with strands of stubborn hair and grains of godknowswhat. Aside from the usual brush hairs and dried paint there are unlimited items of unknown origin that refuse to dislodge themselves.

I have visions of little gremlins hovering above my shoulder dropping pieces of hair at opportune moments and watching my frustration as I try to remove them, covering my fingers in paint. Maybe it’s just the turps getting to me but I’m sure one day I will turn around quick enough to catch one.

Next time your patience falls short in the face of a clingon, keep an eye out for those gremlins and together we’ll beat them.

Here are some more gremlin sketches.

  1. Hahaha! I have fuzz fiends, too! I’m gonna have to start looking for those little guys!

  2. This is great! I love it. My problem is always getting cat hair stuck on my paintings!
